Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production
The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) jointly implement a National Cleaner Production Programme (NCPP) in Albania as part of their global joint programme on Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP). This programme is operational in over 50 developing and transition countries including several in the Balkan and bordering region (e.g. Serbia, Macedonia, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Ukraine, Slovakia) (www.unido.org/cp). In these countries capacity is being developed and/or strengthened to foster the development and implementation of RECP methods, practices, technologies and policies, through such activities as information dissemination, professional training, plant level assessments and demonstration projects, policy advice and support for transfer of Environmentally Sound Technologies.
Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP)
RECP builds upon Cleaner Production and related practices to accelerate the application of preventive environmental strategies to processes, products and services to increase efficiency and reduce risks to humans and the environment.
|RECP addresses the three sustainability dimensions individually and synergistically:
- Production Effieciency: optimization of the productive use of natural resources (materials, energy and water);
- Environmental management : minimization of impacts on environment and nature through reduvtion of wastes and emissions; and
- Human Development: minimization of risks to people and communities and support of their development.
